Cool New Gadget

Our EatSmart Nutrition Scale came!  Normally I (Lisa) am not one for new gadgets but I can't resist anything that will make living with diabetes easier.  This thing measures out everything from Carbs to fat grams to magnesium. You can weigh out a glass of wine on there or even a whole plate full of dinner.  It makes it much easier to figure out the exact carbs of Gabby's meals so we can bolus her more accurately.

I forgot to bolus

When I checked my blood sugar today in the morning it was 52 mg/dl. I ate one strawberry and two pieces of toast with peanut butter.My Mom said we would bolus me a couple minutes after I ate the toast.
When I went to Vallarta for lunch I checked my blood sugar it was 459 mg/dl ,my Mom then remembered that I didn't bolus for breakfast. I will try to never make that mistake again!Talk to you later!

Hi,My name is Gabby and I have Diabetes.
I have had Diabetes for one year.
I have an Animas pump and a one touch meter.
Having  Diabetes is hard sometimes because you cant just eat when ever you want to.
When I am low I feel shaky and sometimes my mouth and throat feels weird.
When I am high I feel tired and sleepy.      
Sometimes I will write about my feelings and other times I will write about my life. Talk to ya later!                                           
    

My Meter Says Hello

This is Gabby's mom. Gabby and I will be sharing this blog to write about her experiences, thoughts and feelings living with Type 1 Diabetes. But this is her blog.  We started this blog to give her an outlet and to encourage others living the same life. Gabby enjoys sharing about her disease and demonstrating her skill in using her gadgets that help her lead a more normal life. As of the start of this blog we have made it past the one year mark.  Diabetes has touched our lives for more than a year.  It's hard to believe. Although you could say it has become second nature to us it never becomes easier.  Diabetes is a trickster. It likes to get you nice and comfortable and then throw a monkey wrench in just to keep you on your toes.
We hope people reading this blog will take advantage of the sites, books and info we have linked on the page. There is also a video we made that shows how we change out her infusion site and operate her insulin pump.
