I have blogged about my love for babywearing on many occasions. In fact quite awhile back I posted about the dangers of certain types of bag slings, namely the Infantino Slingrider. I want to revisit that subject briefly. I have a lot of friends who have become or are about to become mamas again. Despite the Infantino Sling repeatedly causing deaths, it is still on the market and still a big seller. This is so disheartening to me. And I will continue to put the word out there that this is a dangerous and deadly sling to carry your baby in. Just because it is a hot seller at Babies 'R Us does not make it safe or smart.
What is the smart, safe way to wear your baby? Basic rule of thumb is to wear babies, including newborns in a vertical position, between the breasts. The cradle hold, while demonstrated all the time in ads for slings is just not safe. When a baby has it's head in the chin to chest position there is no way for the proper amount of air to enter the baby's lungs. This is called Compression Asphyxiation. Baby's-especially newborns -do not have the strength to lift their little heads back once it has fallen forward.
