I'm a very lucky mom. Very. I feel blessed and special every day not just on the day set aside to bring my role to the forefront. That being said, I had a lovely Mother's Day.
The kids had plans to get up super early and make me a big breakfast. However, they discovered I was already awake on the couch when they came into the living area and they abandoned that plan. (Shhh....don't tell anyone but this was fine with me. I don't like breakfast! I love though, that they wanted to surprise me and I would have eaten it anyway).
I was showered with cards all made by my fantastically wonderful, amazing kids. Maddy made me a mug and Gabby did as well, Gabby also gave me a rose, a potholder which she made and a Dove bar. AJ made me a card out of some alarm clock part and wire, the wire was twisted into a heart and then wrapped with more wire which he explained was my heart being bound because it is so bursting with love it might explode otherwise. This is the quintessential AJ. I loved it.
Mike gave me a Sims Medieval game. I giggled when he handed it to me because the day before when Mike, Jess, Jilly and I were out shopping I saw it on the shelf and remarked on it. Mike wasn't even near us at the time but he knows me well enough that when he spotted it he secretly bought it. He also wrote me a letter. We survived our dating years on letters. Often all we had was letters because we would not see each other for months and months at a time. A couple weeks ago we came across some of our old letters and sat and read them together. I realized how much of a time machine letters are! So Mike wrote me a letter for Mother's Day and I will save it forever.
We left for church, it was our week to work in the toddler nursery but we got to stay in the church for worship (which I was SO grateful for as it energizes me so much) and there was also a child dedication. It was amazing to see how many kids are in our church when they were all up in front of the congregation. We have a LOT of young children at Cornerstone SCV! We survived the toddlers and then headed over to In n Out for lunch.
After In n Out we went bowling. Now that was a riot! I can't believe that they even have bowling shoes small enough for Jilly!
That up there would be Jilly's size 8 shoes next to Papa's size 13's!
We looked like we had a bunch of clown feet!
AJ really got into the technique of bowling. I think he could actually be quite good if he had some practice.
Jillian loved watching her ball roll slowly and I do mean sloooooowly down the lane to the pins.
Ginny did a great job too although the sound of the ball hitting the pins gave her an earache after awhile. But that's Ginny.
After bowling we came home and went to Nanny and Popa's for dinner. It took us awhile to get there because there was an accident on the road and a helicopter landed right in front of us. I prayed that the people involved were ok, the kids thought seeing the helicopter land was pretty neat. After arriving at my inlaws, I promptly fell asleep on the couch for a long time. I guess I needed some rest! Gabby and Jilly fell asleep too, we are such party animals!
It really was a fun day and I am honored to have so many caring, loving people in my life. Thank you to all of them who made my day special!
